These conversations with the Mother, mostly recollected
from memory, reveal not only the compassionate nature of the Mother’s
relationship with one of her disciples, young Mona Sarkar, but disclose, much
as if we were listening with an ear to a door to the Infinite, quiet, almost
whispered truths, like the following:
The Mother: This is what I do when I have a very
difficult work to do. I close my eyes, and I see the things more clearly, each
thing in its place, and I do it very easily because the corresponding things
come one after another, exactly in their place. I have no need to search or
fumble. It comes automatically, and I do it much better and also much faster
than if I had to do the same work, seeing like this. It is a much better way to
do the work by closing the eyes.… One develops a sort of vision which is much
more precise than this one (with the ordinary eyes).
On another occasion the Mother tells Mona that she
cannot sign her name on the photo of Sri Aurobindo. He persists in asking her
to sign, and she offers an explanation.
Mona: But, Mother, when one sees the photos, one sees
You being united with Sri Aurobindo. Then is this not true?
The Mother: Yes, He becomes one with me. Sometimes He is
in me, sometimes He is outside me. From time to time, He is here, and again He
is not here, or else He is in ten places simultaneously. At the same time, He
is in many places. Like this, He is in me also.
Mona: Then it is the same thing. Therefore You can
sign, Mother, because for me You and Sri Aurobindo are the same.
The Mother: My child, there are things which one cannot
say, which one cannot pronounce, leave aside write. That is why I cannot sign.
Because it is not done. Materially, it is not possible. In some other plane of
consciousness it could be done but not materially. You understand, I cannot.
