Is it the famous
half which comes from heaven
That matters?
the hunger travelling forth
Through the
swiftnesses of time? or else a birth
In the things
that are to the night given?
Seven are the
urges it brings, seven
The joys
a-seeded in the womb of the earth;
There are in
the world worlds of abundant worth,
To grow in great
fortunes yet well-proven.
O Sweetness,
your strength and my destiny
Have moved
together through the long ages,
And met offensive
winds too; now they have
Merged, as
would luminous faith and will-to-be,
And written a
new story that presages
Hunger or
birth only for them who are brave.
